FOIA Request Sent to Town of Cedarburg Regarding Same Day Registered Voters for 2024 Election on November 7, 2024

A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was sent to the Town of Cedarburg, Wisconsin on November 7, 2024. The request, filed by Ozaukee County News, sought information regarding new voter registrations that occurred on Election Day, November 5, 2024.

As a media organization committed to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, we at Ozaukee County News believe in the importance of transparency and accountability. Access to public records is essential for us to fulfill our professional responsibilities which include holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public.

The requested records fall under the Wisconsin Open Records Law, §19.31 et seq., and were preferably asked for in an electronic format. This would allow for a more efficient analysis and reporting process.

As members of the media involved in gathering and reporting news to the public, we also requested a fee waiver as part of our request. We believe that given our role in disseminating information to the public, we are eligible for such a waiver as media professionals.

We await response from the Town of Cedarburg regarding this request. It is our hope that through this information we can continue to provide thorough and accurate coverage of local governmental affairs to our readers in Ozaukee County.
