Ozaukee County issued the following announcement on Oct. 1
PROCLAMATION
WHEREAS, 2021 is the 53rd anniversary of the passage of Title VIII of the Civil Rights Act of 1968, known as the Federal Fair Housing Act, and Wisconsin is celebrating the 56th anniversary of the Wisconsin Open Housing Law; and
WHEREAS, the Fair Housing Act prohibits discrimination based on race, color, religion, sex, handicap, familial status, and national origin; and
WHEREAS, fair and open housing occurs when people have a wide range of housing choices based on their income and needs regardless of race, color, sex, sexual orientation, religion, national origin, ancestry, age, marital status, lawful source of income, disability, family status, or status as a victim of domestic abuse, sexual abuse or stalking; and
WHEREAS, Ozaukee County endorses fair housing countywide in its own Fair Housing Ordinance under Section 2.48 of the County Code of Ordinance which in part reads: The open housing and anti-discrimination provisions of Section 106.50 of the Wisconsin Statutes, and all subsequent amendments thereto, are hereby adopted and by reference made a part of this code as if fully set forth herein; and
WHEREAS, Ozaukee County ensures fair and open housing at our own county-owned Lasata Senior Living Campus, and
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT PROCLAIMED, that I, Lee Schlenvogt, Chairperson of the Ozaukee County Board of Supervisors, do hereby proclaim October 2021 to be:
Fair Housing Month
In Ozaukee County and the continued commitment of officials and employees of Ozaukee County in the assistance and orderly prevention of all discrimination in housing within Ozaukee County.
